Director election cycle starts in May with candidate petition period
Democratic member control is one of the seven guiding principles of a cooperative, allowing consumer-members to actively participate in governance by electing representatives to the board of directors. Members interested in serving on the board may begin filing nominating petitions at 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 14. The petition period closes at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16.
Your locally owned, not-for profit electric cooperative is guided by a nine-person board that meets monthly to set policy and establish long-term goals. Members who would like to run for a board position must submit a petition signed by at least 15 fellow co-op members. Candidates may run for a position in the district of their principal place of residency. See the district map on our website or contact the co-op for assistance in determining your district. Qualifications for board candidates are listed in Article IV, Section 4 of the co-op’s member-approved bylaws.
Candidate packets, which include a position description, candidacy overview, nominating petition form, candidate profile form and board policies, are available on the co-op’s website or by request from the co-op’s office.
One board position in each of the three districts is up for election every year. In 2025, the expiring terms are held by Janet Morrow (District 1), Jim Biermann (District 2) and Gary Mullen (District 3).
Directors are elected “at large” by the entire voting membership. Members may vote for one candidate in each district to represent the entire membership. Members will have one month to vote early by mail or online, starting Aug. 15. Members will also be able to cast their ballots in person at the Sept. 17 annual meeting.
