Board candidate petition period opens May 13
One of the seven cooperative principles is democratic member control, which ensures that members have a voice in how their co-op is governed. Each year, members elect representatives to serve on the board of directors, and the next election cycle officially opens in May. Members interested in serving on the board may begin submitting nominating petitions at 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 13. The petition period closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 15.
The cooperative, a locally owned and not‑for‑profit electric utility, is governed by a nine‑member board that meets monthly to set policy and establish long‑term goals. Members who want to run for a board seat must submit a petition signed by at least 15 fellow co‑op members. Candidates must run for a position in the district of their principal place of residency. A district map is available on the co-op’s website or by contacting the office for assistance. Candidate qualifications are listed in Article IV, Section 4 of the member-approved bylaws.
Candidate packets, which include a position description, candidacy overview, nominating petition form, candidate profile form and board policies, are available on the co-op’s website or by request from the co-op’s office.
One board seat in each of the three districts is up for election every year. In 2026, the expiring terms are held by Richard L. “Rick” Adams (District 1), Debbie Willette (District 2) and Joe Cason (District 3).
Directors are chosen by the entire voting membership, not just their own district. Early voting by mail or online opens Aug. 14 and runs for one month. Members may also cast ballots in person at the annual meeting Sept. 16.
